Put Them High Up

Put Them Over Windows and Doors
You want to be well-lit when you’re outside. This is both for click safety and security. You want to see if there is ice in your path when you’re walking in the dark. The last thing you need is to slip and fall, especially if you’re then going to be covered in the shroud of darkness where other members of your household won’t be able to see that you have fallen.
Put Them on the Sides of Your House

Put Them Alongside Pathways
You want to be able to see what is on the path in front of you, too. A security light from above can only show things at a certain angle. The lights on the path can illuminate things a lot better. As a result, you will have the best view possible during the nighttime.
Put Them Around Pools or Ponds
You really don’t want to hear a “SPLASH!” in the middle of the night due to someone inadvertently walking into your pool or pond. The security lights will keep only the most oblivious from doing that.
Put Them Around Your Perimeter
Having them strategically placed around the perimeter of your home can really do a great job of chasing away those nighttime shadows. That way, you’ll have a clear view of everything that’s going on around your home when it’s dark out.
If you’re operating on a budget and can only do a few of these, then it’s a good idea to talk with the installers. Experienced ones will know the best places to put the lights, so you’ll get the most out of your money. Have them walk around your place and see what kind of blind spots any light will miss.
Also, see if you want the lights to be timed or if you want them to be turned on by a motion detector. If you live in an area with a lot of wild animals, you might want the timed one, since the animals will be constantly tripping the motion detectors and shorten the life of the light.
Of course, it’s a good idea to couple your security lights with a security system. That way, you and your family will be well protected. It’s a great investment that will pay for itself in very short order.
